In a world full of uncertainty, with economic challenges, the safety of our children in schools, wars, and the struggles of everyday life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But the Bible tells us, “Be anxious for nothing” (Philippians 4:6). The question is, how do we avoid anxiety?
Paul gives us the answer in Philippians 4:6–7. Pray instead of worrying. When anxiety creeps in, talk to God. Prayer enables us to entrust our worries to Him and experience His calming presence. His presence is where we enter the secret place, a sacred space of intimacy, refuge, and communion with the Lord.
An Invitation to Rest and Renew Strength
Psalm 27:5 declares, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion, in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me, He shall set me high upon a rock.” In David’s time, entering someone’s tent meant protection by the host. Likewise, when we enter God’s presence, He covers and protects us, no matter what we’re facing.
The scripture says, “He shall set me high upon a rock.” God elevates us above our problems. The difficulties may not disappear, but He gives us strength, wisdom, and peace to rise above them.
Psalm 91:1 says, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” To dwell means to remain, stay, or settle. When we remain in God’s presence, we receive guidance, peace, rest, security, and stability. Almighty God, our protector, shields us from all circumstances, allowing us to rest from our worries and anxieties.
Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles…” In the secret place, it refreshes us spiritually, physically, and emotionally. It's essential to be still and wait for God at times. Don’t rush, stay until He gives you renewed strength. Like eagles soaring above the storm, God empowers us to rise above our troubles.
That strength allows us to run and not grow weary, to walk and not faint. The “running” represents the seasons of active service and pressing forward. The “walking” speaks of a step-by-step journey of growing faith. God gives us strength for every season.
Jesus offers an open invitation in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” If you are emotionally, mentally, or physically exhausted, accept Jesus’ invitation to enter His rest. This rest is a deep peace the world cannot give. But to receive it, you must stop carrying your burdens alone and surrender them to Jesus.
Resting in the secret place means trusting God completely. Even when you don’t understand what’s happening, release control and lean on Him. Isaiah 26:3 promises, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
Replacing Worry with Faith
Worry is often a sign we’re trying to control the outcome. Instead, we replace worry with faith. Seek God’s will, ask Him for wisdom in tough seasons, listen to His Word, and let His promises bring peace to your heart.
Trusting God also means waiting on His timing. Don’t rush His process. He is the Potter; you are the clay. He knows precisely when His vessel is complete. God's delay doesn't mean He's not there for you. He is working behind the scenes, even when you can’t see it.
Conclusion
To dwell in the secret place is to trust Him in all things and to find peace even in the middle of the storm.
Reflection
Prayer
Lord, I long to be close to You. Thank You for welcoming me into the secret place—a haven of peace, protection, and love. When life feels uncertain and fear rises, remind me that You are my refuge and the God I trust. Teach me to remain under Your shadow—not only in times of trouble but always. Guide my thoughts and emotions so I may dwell with You daily, not as a temporary retreat but as a way of life. Forgive me for seeking comfort elsewhere. Help me to choose You first. Cover me, Lord, and shelter me under Your wings. I entrust to You my life, my family, and my future. Grant me rest in Your perfect peace, knowing You are always with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
