The Secret Place: Practices for Dwelling in God’s Presence

Each of us longs to dwell in God’s presence—a sanctuary of peace, clarity, and renewal. This hidden refuge, the secret place, unfolds in moments of stillness, gratitude, and wholehearted surrender. As you explore these practices, may you discover fresh ways to stay with the One who loves you beyond measure.

1. Start with Stillness

“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10 (NIV) Each day offers a fresh invitation to create space for God’s presence to breathe life into our souls. Carve out time through prayer, quiet meditation, or reading Scripture. In the hush of your secret place, the noise of the world fades, and you learn to recognize the gentle voice of your Shepherd.

2. Practice Gratitude

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) Instead of letting circumstances dictate our praise, we intentionally choose to see God’s hand at work in every season. Gratitude shifts our focus from what’s missing to the countless gifts we already have. As we cultivate thankfulness, our hearts become fertile ground for joy and trust.

3. Surrender All Things to Him

“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) God never wants you to face life alone. When burdens weigh you down, offer each worry to Him in stillness. Surrender isn’t weakness—it’s a mark of wisdom that declares, “Lord, I trust You more than I trust myself.”

4. Reflect and Remember

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” – Psalm 103:2 (ESV) When life feels overwhelming, dwelling on past victories renews our hope. Remember the moments when God turned your troubles into blessings.  Let those memories remind you of His unwavering love and fuel your faith today.

5. Lean into Community

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together… but encouraging one another.” – Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) Faith flourishes in fellowship. Join a Bible study, prayer group, or book club where hearts gather to seek God together. You’re always welcome in the Loved Beyond community to share prayers, testimonies, and reflections on His goodness.

Let's Reflect

  • Which of the practices, stillness, gratitude, surrender, remembrance, or community, do you find most challenging? What can you do this week to grow in that area?
  • Which worries are you ready to surrender in your secret place, and what steps will you take to let it go?

Let's Pray

Lord, thank You for inviting me into Your secret place, where stillness reveals Your presence. Help me cultivate gratitude when life is busy and surrender every worry into Your caring hands. Draw me closer through community and memories of Your faithfulness, that my heart may rest in You alone. Amen.
