Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. —Psalm 91:3 (NIV)
A Story of Rescue
When I think of rescue, one of my dearest friends immediately comes to mind. Back in middle school, I had a teacher who, believe it or not, seemed to go out of her way to say mean things to me and tried to make me feel small. Sometimes her words worked, and I dreaded going to school after facing her. One day, I finally told my friend what was happening.
She didn’t just listen — she confronted the teacher! To my surprise, she showed up during my lunch period, not hers, slipped away on a “bathroom break,” and told the teacher that her behavior was wrong and needed to stop. Yes, you read that right: my middle school friend did that. Looking back, it still amazes me that she had the courage to speak up at such a young age. Yes, it was a little out of line. But you know what? The teacher actually stopped.
My friend came to my rescue. She stepped into a situation I couldn’t fix and changed everything. If a middle school friend could do that, how much more does our Heavenly Father step in when we cry out for help?
God Our Rescuer
God doesn't just hear us when we cry; He moves on our behalf. Sometimes His rescue looks like a miracle, a breakthrough, or a shift in circumstances. Other times, it comes as a quiet peace that anchors your heart before anything around you changes. But one thing is always true: His timing is perfect, and His love is never late.
David knew this firsthand. He wrote:
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.” Psalm 34:17
When we dwell in God’s presence, we receive more than comfort. We receive His refuge (Day 3), His rescue, and His unwavering care.
The Greater Rescue
Every rescue in Scripture points to the ultimate rescue — the cross. From Daniel in the lions’ den to Peter’s jailbreak in Acts 12, each story of deliverance whispers of the day Jesus would step into our hopeless situation and save us forever.
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”
— Colossians 1:13–14 (NKJV)
God didn’t just rescue you from one hard day. He rescued you for eternity. No pit, no chain, no past mistake is too deep for His hand to reach. That’s the kind of Deliverer He is.
Looking Back
There will be seasons when you feel completely stuck — weighed down by fear, stress, or impossible circumstances. But if you look back, you’ll often see God’s fingerprints all over those moments: the perfectly timed phone call, the unexpected money that arrived just in time, the inner calm that made no sense in the middle of chaos.
Some rescues are dramatic. Others are quiet. But both remind you that you are never forgotten. God is always present, and He always comes to your rescue. If you’re in a challenging season right now, take heart: God is here with you, and He will see you through.
Today’s Invitation
When you face a problem, pause before reacting. Instead of panicking or rushing to fix it yourself, cry out to God first. Write down one area where you need His rescue, and pray over it every time it comes to mind today. Watch for the ways, big or small, that He begins to move.
Let’s Reflect
Let’s Pray
God, thank You for being my Rescuer. Thank You that no situation is too hard for You, and no battle too big for You. When I feel overwhelmed, remind me to cry out to You first. Teach me to trust Your timing, even when I don’t see the way forward yet. Rescue my heart from fear and fill me with courage to keep walking with You.
Amen.
🪽 Day 5 – Safe and Covered: Rest in His sheltering grace and unfailing care.
