🏡 Day 2 – Dwell in the Secret Place

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” — Psalm 91:1 (NIV)

God invites us to dwell in the secret place, a space where we draw near to Him. In this sacred place, we’re not just visiting God occasionally; we choose to dwell with Him daily, making His presence our home. The secret place is where we both dwell and rest, finding renewal for our souls. Here we find peace, clarity, and strength to face whatever lies ahead.

To dwell means to remain, to settle in, to stay connected. It is the heart leaning toward God, a decision to live near Him, not just know about Him. Dwelling goes beyond belief or quick spiritual check-ins. It is making His presence your permanent home. It is the difference between stopping by and settling in. When we dwell, we invite God into every moment of our lives, not only the ones we label as “spiritual.”

One of the clearest pictures of dwelling comes from the story of two sisters, Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38–42). They were close friends of Jesus and often opened their home to Him. When Jesus came to visit, Martha busied herself with the tasks of serving, while Mary chose to sit at His feet, listening closely to His words. Growing frustrated, Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her. But instead of correcting Mary, Jesus gently reminded Martha that her sister had chosen the better part: being still in His presence.

Mary’s decision shows us what it means to dwell: to set aside distractions and remain close to Jesus, even when life pulls us in a hundred directions. Her example reminds us that God desires our presence more than our performance.

When we draw near to God in this way, He covers us like a shadow—steady, faithful, and protective. Dwelling with Him is more than a temporary refuge; it is where our hearts find their true home.

Dwell Daily

Seeking His presence doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s making small, intentional choices to turn your heart toward God throughout the day:

  • Pausing in the morning to thank Him for new mercies.
  • Whispering a prayer in moments of stress.
  • Meditating on a verse during your commute or break.
  • Choosing to be still, even if only for a minute.

Each small step is a way of building your life in His presence.

Today’s Invitation

Before your day gets busy, take five minutes to sit in silence or step outside for a short walk. Breathe deeply, thank God for His presence, and ask Him to walk with you today.

Let’s Reflect

  • When during the day do you feel more aware of God’s presence?
  • What distractions pull you away from simply being in His presence?
  • Do you see God as someone you visit occasionally, or as the One who walks with you daily?

Let’s Pray

Lord, thank You for slowing my steps long enough to hear Your voice. Meet me in the quiet moments and make Your presence my home. Teach me to carry that nearness with me throughout the day, so I walk in Your peace and strength.

Amen.
