“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23 (ESV)
Life brings seasons we would never choose—chapters marked by uncertainty, frustration, and waiting. These moments test our resilience, stretch our patience, and expose where our trust truly lies.
In 2022, only a year after my husband and I purchased our first home, the happiness we felt was soon overshadowed by challenges. My husband lost his job, and my sister had been laid off months earlier. About six months later, he found work, but his health began to decline. In January 2024, our daughter was hospitalized for a week following unexpected surgery. The next month, my husband was laid off again due to his worsening condition. That summer, my daughter and I were in a hit-and-run accident. Later that year, my brother was involved in a terrible car crash, and when he first arrived at the hospital, doctors were unsure if he would survive. Then, in May of this year, we received more difficult news about my husband’s health.
It felt like endless waves crashing down on my family.
Yet, in those moments, Isaiah 43:2 came alive: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.” I lived those words. We walked through deep waters, yet they did not sweep us away. We faced the fire, and though it scorched, it did not consume. God’s presence carried us through.
Despite income loss, we never missed a mortgage payment. Twice, unexpected checks arrived—one just in time, days before a payment was due. Against all odds, my brother survived. My husband is still facing health challenges, but he is battling them with a strong determination to heal. And God is healing him.
These storms have drawn our family closer to one another and even closer to God. His steadfast love has been our anchor. Even now, as we continue to navigate uncertainty, I can boldly declare: God provides. God protects. And God draws us near to Himself—especially in the fire.
Unshaken: God’s Love Through It All
God’s love never shifts with circumstances. It doesn’t retreat when life grows heavy. Instead, His love strengthens us when we are weak, comforts us when we are waiting, and whispers peace in the middle of the storm. His mercies are truly new every morning. His faithfulness is not just an idea—it is lived, proven, and trustworthy.
Let’s Reflect
Where have you unexpectedly seen God’s faithfulness in your hardest season—and how might that memory steady your heart today?
Let’s Pray
Father, thank You for being present in every storm. Thank You that the waters cannot sweep us away and the fire cannot consume us because You are with us. Remind us of Your faithfulness when fear rises and hope feels distant. Anchor us in the memory of Your past blessings so we can trust You with today and tomorrow. May Your steadfast love and new mercies carry us forward, one step at a time.
Amen.
